Re-opened in March 2012, the Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center is located in New Orleans. The original community center building dated back to 1917, while the library was opened in 1993. Both structures were badly damaged after Hurricane Katrina with the library sustaining over five feet of interior flooding. Thanks to the perseverance of the local community and leaders, funding was secured to rebuild the facilities. Eskew+Dumez+Ripple designed the new modern library with a carefully crafted spine to connect to the historic community center. A custom Chilewich round floor mat in Basketweave Mango was chosen for the childrens’ area of the library.
All Chilewich flooring is Green Label Plus™ certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute and earns LEED points. Chilewich textiles and flooring also contain Microban® to inhibit the growth of stain- and odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew.
